Computer hangs copying data from CD-ROM drive due to 'Read-Ahead' Feature.
Cause:
The ''Read-Ahead' feature for the hard drive is causing the computer to hang when reading data from the CD-ROM drive.
Solution:
Open the 'Device Manager', and adjust down the 'Read-Ahead' feature setting until the problem is eliminated.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)

3) Open the 'System' icon.
4) Click the 'Performance' tab, and click 'File System'. (The 'File System Properties' dialog box appears.)

5) If necessary, click the 'Hard Disk' tab.
6) Do one of the following:
a) If the 'Read-ahead optimization' slider bar is set to 'Full', lower the 'Read-ahead optimization' by moving the slider bar to the left.
NOTE: Lower the 'Read-ahead optimization' feature in small increments.
b) If the 'Read-ahead optimization' slider bar is set to 'None', increase the 'Read-ahead optimization' by moving the slider bar to the right.
NOTE: Increase the 'Read-ahead optimization' feature in small increments
7) Click 'OK' to close the 'File System Properties' dialog box.
8) Click 'Close' to close the 'System Properties' dialog box. (The 'System Settings Change' dialog box appears.)

9) Click 'Yes' to restart Windows 95.
10) Retry copying data from the CD-ROM to the hard drive.
NOTE: If the computer continues to hang, repeat steps 1) through 6) until the problem has been eliminated or the 'Read-ahead optimization' feature cannot be adjusted any further. If the problem persists, contact next-level support or a qualified computer technician.
